People usually get slab countertops because of their aesthetic value. Stone does look gorgeous, we’ll admit – it beats wood and tile any day! However, what many people don’t know is that slab offers quite a few benefits that other materials don’t. It’s much harder, for instance, which means it’s less likely to get scratched by kitchen utensils.
Builders Interiors is a countertop showroom near Snohomish, and our designers are in love with slab!
Benefits of Slab Countertops
It’s Incredibly Durable
Quartz and granite countertops are evergreen and they never go out of style, which is great, because they’re almost indestructible. Bear in mind that we aren’t saying they’re really indestructible, but as long as you treat them right and don’t smack them with a hefty pan, they’re likely to last a lifetime at the very least. Stone countertops are sturdy things.
It’s Moisture Resistant
While natural stone is usually porous, it can be sealed once a year to make it moisture-resistant. You don’t want a countertop that’s easily damaged by moisture in the kitchen. The maintenance involved would be a nightmare. This is what makes slab so great. We have some awesome options at our countertop showroom, and we’ll seal and install them so you don’t have to worry about maintenance. Slab can develop water stains relatively easily, however, so make sure you don’t leave water lying on it for too long.
The Price Is Lower Than You’d Expect
Are you worried about the cost of slab countertop installation? Most of our customers are. However, you’ll be pleased to know that our prices for slab start at just $62 per square foot. We have a large inventory and we aren’t afraid to sell it at a slim margin. Our philosophy is that happy customers are what makes a business a true success. And to keep our customers happier still, we provide a quality guarantee on all products!
It’s Heat Resistant
Slab countertops are, by and large, good at tolerating high temperatures and are unlikely to catch fire. That’s a great quality in a kitchen countertop, in case things go south while deep-drying something or you have an accident. You don’t want a malfunctioning stove to destroy your entire kitchen. Marble and soapstone are especially good, but granite’s highly heat resistant as well. Perfect for your dream kitchen!
It’s Stain Resistant
Most slab material is naturally stain-resistant, while others can be sealed to protect them against stains. This makes them a breeze to clean. We wouldn’t recommend letting spills settle, but if you spilled some oil and couldn’t (or forgot to) clean it immediately, for example, your countertop isn’t going to be ruined. We have some highly stain-resistant varieties currently in stock at our countertop showroom – come take a look!
It’s Pest Resistant
The last thing you want to happen – right after biting into a bad apple – is to find a bunch of termites or ants comfortably nesting in your kitchen countertop. We’ve seen it happen before, and trust us, it’s not something you want to experience. Wood is a pest magnet. While it’s usually treated during countertop installation, you could still do better. Stone countertops aren’t any fun for insects, especially if you keep them clean.
